Mastercard 4840: Legacy code
A Mastercard dispute reason code, what it asks you to prove, and what Do The Proof puts in the response.
This code is retired
Absent from the Mastercard Chargeback Guide of 13 May 2025 and consolidated into 4853, 4834 and 4808. The inventory records no retirement date, only the edition it is missing from, and it abbreviates the legacy names inside one grouped cell. The guide of 13 May 2025 does not mention this code anywhere, and the inventory does not name it, so this hub does not name it.
What this code means
Absent from the May 2025 guide; consolidated into 4853/4834/4808. Stripe still maps 4841→subscription_canceled, 4855→product_not_received, 4860→credit_not_processed, 4863→unrecognized, 4831/4842/4846→general (4842/4846 "DEPRECATED")
The sources differ. Chargeflow still lists this code as current and the May 2025 guide does not; the inventory treats it as retired.

How Do The Proof handles it
Arrives in Do The Proof as: nothing. The sources do not record a label for this code, so a dispute carrying it arrives without one.
